Could these two possibly be any luckier!?! Not a chance! Snoop & Emma have found a fabulous forever home with an exceptional new mom!! We could not be happier for this very special pair! Snoop (an ~ 10 year old beagle mix) and Emma (an ~ 6 year old, blue/grey dilute calico kitty) came to us from a local animal shelter after their elderly owner was admitted to assisted living. Snoop found himself at the shelter … faced with being euthanized due to his own advanced age and the fact that he wasn’t considered “adoptable” due to his geriatric status. “His” cat, Emma, was to be “held” at the shelter and likely would have contracted a contagious respiratory infection … at which time, she too would have been euthanized. We became aware of their situation and couldn’t help be feel sorry for this lifelong pair … who first, were separated from their beloved owner … and then, were separated from eachother. We decided to take them both into our program so that they could be reunited and have a chance at being adopted by a forever family … or at least retire together with comfort and dignity. Snoop and Emma were very glad and relived to see eachother! Emma actually sat on top of “her” old dog friend in the car on their way home from the shelter … and we kept them together in the same large crate initially so that they could get reacquainted and feel comfort in each others presence. Since coming to stay with us … Snoop and Emma have both made new friends and while Snoop had a little trouble at first with anxiety and simply feeling sad about the loss of his lifelong, elderly owner … he has adjusted well and seems content and comfortable to lounge in the sunshine and snooze with our other geriatric residents. Emma and Snoop keep tabs on each other … and we would love for them to be able to stay together forever. If the right person comes along and is willing to provide them both with a loving, forever home, we would be thrilled. However, they will always have a home here at SCF if need be and they will never again have to worry about being apart.
1/19/11 – We had fully expected that Snoop and Emma would reside with us at SCF indefinitely as we knew that it would be difficult to find someone willing to take in this “mature pair”. However, sometimes one can’t help but wonder if things happen for a reason. Snoop and Emma’s new life began after the passing of another very special, SCF “graduate”. Gumby, also a prior SCF adoptee, recently passed away. When we learned of her passing … we were very sad … but happy for the second chance that Miss Gumby had received. And while Gumby’s mom still misses her tremendously … she also understands the importance of continuing to give needy critters a second chance. As if Gumby had orchestrated the whole thing … Snoop and Emma were welcomed with open arms (literally) into the home of Gumby’s mom. Snoop clearly knew that his job was to help Gumby’s mom heal after the loss of her special friend … and he eagerly greeted his new mom with many kisses and excitedly jumped into the car (with “his” cat, Emma) when it was time to leave the farm to head to their new home. We couldn’t be happier for Snoop and Emma! Every dog has his day … and Snoop most definitely had his day!! Thank you Karen for giving yet another special beagle (and his cat!) a second chance. We know that you are still healing after the loss of Gumby … and we hope that Snoop & Emma make that healing process just a little bit easier. Congrats to your new little family! We look forward to updates and visits in the future!
Cooper and Emma–a/k/a Snoop and Emma–want to say “hey” to all their friends at SCF.
After some discussion, Snoop decided a name more befitting his gentlemanly status was in order, having left most of his younger Snoop habits behind. As for Emma, she is a distinctly, dainty cat and sees herself as the rose in our family, and we agree.
We are forever grateful to SCF and all they do, in particular their commitment to rescuing older animals.
Emma ROSE would like to officially announce her new name–or ;almva/,CXV in preferred cat language–something I neglected to specify in our previous post.
