Kristin MacDonald, DVM – Founder & Director of Rehabilitation & Retirement
Kristin currently practices as a small animal veterinarian at a local animal hospital. She originally founded Second Chance Farms, Inc as a means to help homeless and unwanted animals within the Alachua County area. The organization was initially started when Kristin was still in veterinary school and since then, the organization has grown significantly. While the tasks are overwhelming at times (there are simply so many critters who need help!) she feels strongly that every little bit makes a difference. She advocates for responsible pet ownership and strives to provide excellent quality care to all of the animals of Second Chance Farms. Kristin currently lives and works at the “farm” – which serves as the retirement home for our geriatric, ill and behaviorally challenged SCF animals.
“Early one evening a man was walking along a beach when he saw a boy picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. The man asked the boy why he was doing this. The boy explained the starfish would die if left to the morning. The man asked the boy, “What difference will your efforts make when there are thousands of starfish on the beach?” The boy stopped and looked at the starfish he was holding and said, “It will make a difference to this one.” – Author Unknown

Karen Huber
Karen came to know SCF after she adopted a very special little beagle from our organization. Gumby hit the jackpot in regards to finding a second chance with Karen … and Karen claims that Gumby taught her everything she now knows about rescue. Sounds like a win : win situation. Karen has continued to share her life with needy, older animals since Gumby’s passing and she now acts as the editor for our newsletter! Karen’s expertise and attention to detail is very much appreciated and she is a very valued member of our SCF family.
