Who Are We?
Just after the turn of the 21st century, Second Chance Farms Inc. (SCF) began
welcoming abandoned geriatric and medically/emotionally complex animals of all
species to its farm in Gainesville, FL. Since 2008, SCF has operated as a 501(c)3
nonprofit corporation with one overarching goal: to maintain a lifelong commitment to
each animal it assists.
All animal who come “home” to SCF become permanent residents and a very lucky few
find permanent foster homes under the direction of SCF staff. In these permanent foster
home situations, SCF provides all veterinary care as well as all supplies. However, the
permanent foster animals are always considered permanent residents of SCF and the
placements are regularly monitored.
Currently at the farm, we care for dogs, cats, various farm animals, reptiles and guinea pigs! We never discriminate against medical background, age, breed or species! We do, however, know our own limitations. Thus, we will always ensure that we can provide for an animal for the rest of his or her life before taking an individual into our program.
Fun Fact: We're proud of our images and we don't use any stock photos! ALL of the pictures on this site have been taken at the farm!
The People Behind SCF
We are a family run nonprofit sanctuary farm. Not only does the farm serve as a permanent home to our many animal residents, but the farm also serves as home to our human family. We are two veterinarians and it is in this way, that our animals are able to receive 24/7 supervision, monitoring and medical attention, when necessary. Our three young kiddos also help to provide the animal's with some extra TLC and they are learning to respect and appreciate animals of all species and conditions.
In addition to managing the business aspect of our non-profit and providing daily care to our many animal residents, our family also enjoys growing our own fruits and veggies, making use of the eggs provided to us from our flock of free-range chickens and we almost always have a project going on around the farm as we continuously try to make improvements for the animals of SCF. We strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible in our lifestyles and in sustaining our family.
While the majority of our animals reside long-term at the farm, we depend on a few very dedicated permanent foster families. These special people provide long-term homes to needy animals; all under SCF supervision and with the financial support of SCF.
What about funds?
We are funded entirely from generous donations from our phenomenal followers, sponsors, and supporters. We also participate in two charitable campaigns annually (FSECC & UFCC). We have no paid staff and every cent goes directly towards providing care for our animals.
